CommentsWelcome to my guest book..... Alan B
CommentsGreat idea Alan. Your project is coming along just fine. It will be interesting to watch it progress further and to read comments from people around the world. Best wishes for the New Year Ken
CommentsGreat project, thumbs up. It's nice to see someone do what others only dream of doing but never make the commitment (ahem...) Keep it up, I'll be following along faithfully! Regards, Neil
CommentsLooking very well indeed! Great video clip too. I'm so happy that you decided to make the drastic changes that you have. You already had an awsome looking body, but decided to go for it! WELL DONE! The pop-up headlights will certainly keep the lines clean. Good idea. Talk to you soon. Jack M.
CommentsBrilliant project, starting one myself based on locost seven chassis. Looking at your site has given me great ideas, don't no how you have time to take and upload all this info. Kev
CommentsAwesome job. I like how you do the renderings and they look so real. It's gonna be sweet, I really like how you have the engine bodywork. Stick with it.
CommentsAlan. Great site. You're doing an excellent job. Love your design. Someday I hope to use your work as inspiration to do my own body kit for a Fiero. Keep up the good work. Bob
CommentsThis is such a fabulous resource -- he's such a great guy - he's my favorite brother!!! (my only brother) .... signed - his sister Susan
CommentsCan't wait to see it finished! As per email approx 1 mo ago, when better along with project I would request you email me as i'm looking for another project. Retirement is very BORING & don't let anyone tell you different! Glen Lassiter Slidell, La.
CommentsWell done Alan this is something that i was planning on doing myself, you have given me incentive to continue with my project, i just hope it turns out as good as yours. John
CommentsAlan, as ever, terrific work, and well documented (my biggest failing). Cheers Bob (Rorty).
CommentsI obviously know nothing about bodywork but your decission to share your projects with other internet users sure will remove alot of people like me from the dark.Thank you on behalf of everyone
CommentsHi Alan, In 3 days it will be the 6 month anniversary of your starting on the new bodystyle. You've made incredible progress. Keep up the good work mate! Graber
CommentsI love the looks of the Meerkat...sleek, yet playful. Can I take a ride in it sometime? --J
CommentsLooks Good, We must have lunch someday. Bob T.
CommentsHey Alan,Im a student mechanical from Ireland. Class site, came across it researching a scaled down version of your project. Mite need a few pointrs in the future D
CommentsWith the inspiration of your Website and Ron Champions book I am about to configure a 1989 Nissan Sentra (FWD) sitting in my drive into a mid-engine sports car. Thanks for the great information
Commentsi've enjoyed watching the progress of your build. I've been saying that I would do something similar for quite some time, and you've been a big help answering some of the questions I had yet to resolve. Steve Cage
CommentsAlan, Your project and website are incredible! I've enjoyed reading along, keep going! -Mike Miller
CommentsCan't wait to see this thing. Alan, you and Graber need to run once you guys get your cars finished and let me watch... No really, I would like to stop in and see it myself sometime. Good luck and stick with it. Sean Chastain, smchasta@ncsu.edu
CommentsI'll be joining you boys soon enough... just give me a few years to finish everything else (including Lucy's GTM Libra!) Mark 'GT Addict' Fox.
CommentsHey Mr. Bertwistle. I love your son, he's so hot!
CommentsI just have to say you are doing a great job and keep up the good work. I had about 7 months I had not seen your site and I found it again :), I have spend the last 1:30 hrs reading everything and looking at your progress, the car is looking really good. Lincoln
Commentsman, great job. can't wait to see it painted!
CommentsGuys, thanks for all the feedback so far...it is really appreciated...Alan B
CommentsGreetings, Alan! You should personally feel proud every time a new middie project starts up, as you've inspired and helped so many. Even us non-middie builders :) Pete B.
CommentsFerdinand Porsche once said, "I couldn't find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself." Truly marvelous. I should very much like to see the Meerkat when it is finished! -CK
CommentsDear Alan I have studied with a lot of interest the development of your project Meercat, and I congratulate you on the clear technical approaches that you applied in all the items. For something you are technical in construction of robots, a lot of approach I am to carry out a Kit of 3.32 x 2,54 x 1.88 but without a sophisticated outloock Congratulations Herbert Römer Buenos Aires herbert@romerconsulting.com
CommentsYou have made incredible progress! I am still waiting for my ride...;) --J
CommentsAgain, thanks all for the serious comments good or bad. Please keep them coming. Some pointless, irrelevant and childish comments have been removed. Sensible, relevant and constructive ones will never be. Alan B
CommentsGlad to see you met up with Graber, that's really cool. Cant wait till you guys hit the track together ;-)
CommentsGreat job!!!!! almost done now!!!!! Looking good!!!!
CommentsWhat's particle board? (From Brit.) Looks like chipboard or MDF...???
CommentsParticle board is what I would have called chipoard in the UK. MDF in the UK is MDF here too. HTH, Alan.
CommentsVery good job. Both for the car and for the site. I have seen more details for my own proyect(a small formula, like a formula sae). Thanks for spend time aploading all that photos, they are very interesting. I'm surprised with the finished car, it's very nice. really very good job. Sorry my english(I'm spanish) Alex
CommentsNice work...looks great! :) --J
CommentsFELICITATIONS MARC GRECK
CommentsNice looking piece of work. I will check in from time to time. I am building a custom composite sandwich panel mid engine, renault uni trans and small block chev. Body, chassis just about complete. What sort of software tools did you use to optimize your suspension geometry. I have a basic design which I am sure will work fine (front and rear a-arm) but it would be nice to tune it a bit more before I actually start fabricating. colinford@fordgroup.ca I am in Vancouver Canada.
CommentsHi there!! Just spent a lot of time in here and i have to say a BIG thanks :) Just starting on my "similar" project over here in sweden, mostly i try to find usefull information. And i found a LOT in here, Big thanks, awesome job and well done!!
CommentsCar looks fantastic but for the front wings which look a bit too bulbous, as though they were stuck on. Rear is super sexy though... Shame you're not still in England - any plans to sell 'em over here? How fast does it go?? Sadly I'm a bit of a dreamer - I'm still studying plus getting married, so have to settle for a sensible car 4 now, but maybe one day....Any thoughts on using a turbocharged unit to really light your fire??
CommentsThanks for the input. Yes, selling into the UK is definitely in my plans...keep watching. Alan
CommentsOOOoo, I could ride this all the way to the muffin shop... ~A.
CommentsVery nice work, well done. Maz.
CommentsA nice design and well implemented. Can I just ask, which software packages have you been using? Regards, Gareth Smith Kent, UK
CommentsThanks Gareth and others, the nice comments are very welcome. The solid modeling and CAD work has been done in Mechanical Desktop. The image manipulation is done in Paintshop Pro and the website in Frontpage. A...I expect the Meerkat would be perfect for the Muffin shop run...:-)
CommentsBest Locost site I have ever seen! This is great inspiration for my Locost project - a Saturn powered mid-engine.
CommentsAlan: GREAT site!!! I've been mulling the idea to build a "middy" for some time now, have done some CAD drawings, even built a model. Since I had no clay and I was in the process of remodeling my basement, I used my resources on hand to build my model... which of course was joint putty!!! So I really chuckled when I saw what you were using for filler! My design is very similar to your Meerkat - great minds think alike?! If you like I'll snap some pics and e-mail them to you. Keep up the great work, you're inspiring me to actually start mine!!! Todd
CommentsGood site but an even better idea! You should write a book about building a meerkat you could get rich, I would certainly buy a copy. I'm thinking about building a locost seven but I realy don't like the cars look. Cars like the radical or the ultima gts are more my cup of thea but there expensive. So if you write the book, I'll build a meerkat! I already picked out a engine a Honda civic CRX dohc 130 hp. Should be nice to drive. Regards, Wobbe Bouma www.whpracing.nl
CommentsHey the car is looking real good. I'm building a locost my self, It's been about a year and a half. It'll be ready for next summer.good luck! Chris.. mr.felcher@shaw.ca
CommentsA top effort - you and your kind are an inspiration to me. I'm gathering stuff together to start my own project of this sort. Wonder whether the other half is going to approve the marked slow down in the DIY on the house ;-). Keep going with it - can't wait until it's done. One bit of feedback - turn the guestbook the other way up so the most recent comments are first, and settle for a consistent GB word (US work) [or the other way round] scheme. I'm in Kent, UK, BTW, just down the road from Fisher Sportscars.... Ben
CommentsI think the thong is the best idea yet, I'll have to get one for Les. ATB Roy
CommentsAlan, has your e mail address changed, please mail me at work with current address. ATB Roy, I removed your e-mail address, Alan
CommentsHey Ben (and others), thanks for the feedback. If I can find a way to reverse to order in here I will. Also your point about consistent translation is well taken....I can never decide who I'm writing it for..LOL
Commentsnew test
CommentsNow that you made the jump and succedded, I can follow your lead and try it myself. Gret Job
CommentsYour site is super! I am building a car of my own and this site helped me a lot! Thank you! P.S. Do you have any more schemas/ explanatory pictures/ advices? If you do could you please send them to hate_this_mail@yahoo.com ? Thank you!
Commentsmore updates please, pretty pleeeeeeze, we're hungry out here :-P !!!
CommentsHi all, sorry about the lack of recent updates. Although the project itself was relatively unaffected by the recent hurricanes, a lot of extra work has been caused which has been taking up my time. Hope to get back on track soon. Alan
Commentsno animation should write in one page
CommentsSorry, I don't understand. Could you clarify? Alan
CommentsWow! what a tremendous project you are undertaking. The Meercat is a thing of beauty! You are either tireless, or have lots of spare time! *** i saw a Big Daddy Ed Roth piece one time where he built a plug using/lath and plaster that was mixed with vermiculite (you know those small bead of styrofoam looking stuff used in potting soil) to build contours and rough shape, then regular plaster once the basic shape was made..... a thought for building up, at least. I was researching a trike project and stumbled on your site. So glad I did. I will visit often. Thanks for sharing, and as others have mentioned spending valuable "fabrication" time to upload it for us to enjoy. Regards, chris r. houston,tx.
CommentsKnock Knock Knock..... Hello.....anybody home.....Knock KNOCK KNOCK!!!! ALAN ARE YOU THERE???? Hmmmmm been almost 2 months since he's been here. Alan must be busy with work. Hope the hurricanes didn't blow him away.
CommentsWe are looking forward to see your progress..... . We are waiting too long at this moment! PLS update PLEAS!!!!!
CommentsRe: Updates. Yes, while not being too seriously affected by the hurricanes there has been a lot work caused by them, and time lost. Also, being very busy with my regular paying job doesn't help the project.....However, normality should be restored soon. Alan
CommentsI may have to discontinue the guest book.....I'm spending too much time deleting spam. Sorry to those who use it for its intended purpose.
CommentsOk guys...the guestbook is going to close next update. I should be spending time building the car...not deleting garbage.
CommentsThat would be a shame... It's a pity a minority of pricks on the internet spoil so much for the majority with their annoyances... Why don't you create a login to post instead - perhaps the extra hassle would deter most of them...??? Anyway good luck with the build & looking forward to your update whenever you manage to fit it in ;-) Rgds, Neil.
CommentsHi Neil, thanks for the comments...I just came on the site now and deleted a bunch of crap....I'll keep it going for now...
CommentsYes! A update!!!! Looking forward to see the progress! We (my dad and I keep on visiting your site!) It was for us the push in the back to start our own project. Good luck! Best wishes for 2005!
CommentsHi Alan Building moulds with polyester resins is difficult because these resins shrink by 1 to 2 % during the hardening process. Therefore some bigger parts are bent instead of being straight. I am sure you will have made that experience, too. How did you overcome the problem? Epoxy resins do not shrink but they cost ca. 5 times more and I became allergic against them. Cheers from Germany Hartmut hrvgt@onlinehome.de
CommentsHow are you doing Alan? Sorry to about the abuse of your guestbook. So when you finish the Meerkat, will you publish a book? I was looking at your beginning project items and saw drawings for front and rear suspensions, did you make these or source them from elsewhere? As usual I'm eager for updates.
CommentsThis is an amazing project. Thank you for sharing. I may now get inspired and start one myself. bob Thomas rthomas2nwlink.com
Comments7 Apr 05 Alan: Fantastic Job!! I thought I knew something about plug making but you sure taught me some new tricks. Am now better armed to attack my all GRP Lotus body. Thanks for a super informative web site. Joseph P.
